Offshore
sailing brings you face to face with nature and the elements.
It combines adventure, excitement, mental and physical challenge,
teamwork and companionship. We believe that the rewards should
be there for all - including people with disabilities.
We
have 5 years experience providing offshore sailing for people
with multiple sclerosis and know very well how the experience
can renew self confidence and self worth while giving people
a genuine break from their everyday cares.
Our
yachts are not suitable for people who need a wheelchair at
all times or need nursing care. However, they are suitable
for people with mobility limitations or for blind, VI or deaf
people. All you need is a will to have a go.
There
are no "passengers". Crews learn how to sail the boat, are
fully involved in steering, deckwork etc and at the end of
a week are left with a glowing sense of achievement.
Although
the boat is not wheelchair accessible, we do carry wheelchairs
for use ashore. Anyone who can move around a room holding
on to furniture can manage aboard. Most tasks can be done
sitting down and of course the boat provides the transport
and accommodation in one package.
Visually
Impaired People
Blind
or VI sailors can now participate fully in sailing "Tonic"
using a special system which provides voice outputs of all
the boat's instrument data - compass heading, speed, depth,
wind direction etc at the steering position.
Disabled
Sailing Opportunities
If
you are disabled and would like to sail with us just email
or call us to discuss possibilities. It may be that you can
join an existing course or cruise but we can also arrange
special sailing sessions for particular groups.
