Special 'Bespoke' Fast Track Courses
The main programmed fast track courses are always the best bet if you can afford the time - even if you have some prior experience. However, if you are unable to take all this time off in one go and/or you are starting from an intermediate level, we can arrange a special Fast Track course tailored to your exact requirement. Call us to discuss possibilities.

Main Fast Track Course Content
The course runs for 14 weeks and includes 74 or 75 days training at sea together with all the supporting classroom training. The basic training is all completed in local waters of the South East coast, sailing from Chatham along the Essex, Suffolk and Kent coasts as far as France and Belgium. These are interesting, challenging waters with shallow banks, strong tides and plenty of shipping. At the beginning of week 6, students embark on a 43 day adventure cruise. This is a hugely enjoyable and life-enhancing experience. The Spring programme sails from the Thames to France, Holland, north along the entire seaboard of eastern England and Scotland, up to Orkney, Fairisle and Shetland and then around to Western Scotland. The summer programme sails from western Scotland around the west coast of Ireland, south to the Isles of Scilly and on to southern and northern Brittany, and finally back via the Channel Islands to Chatham. The Autumn programme sails right around the mainland of Great Britain with visits to Ireland and France.

The extended cruise is an ideal training vehicle; students are exposed to the widest range of situations and conditions - from complex traffic zones to wilderness, from shallow rivers to deep fjords and real open sea, from large ports to tiny fishing harbors and remote anchorages. Students skipper the yachts on complete passages and for a day or more at a time - assuming responsibility for all aspects of planning, navigation, pilotage and supervision on deck.

After a short break training resumes at Chatham with an advanced skills course before students take a yacht away for a week without an instructor. There follows 5 days of intensive training before the yachmaster examination. By the end of the course everyone will be a competent and confident skipper with wide knowledge of UK and/or north European waters and with all the skills needed for a sure pass in the Yachtmaster Examination.

Supporting shore-based training is in our comfortable classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids including computer simulation.

We have only 5 students per course so individual attention is guaranteed.

Additional modules are available - including offshore sailing introduction (pre fast track), level 2 Dinghy, level 2 Powerboat, Yachtmaster Power Conversion, RYA Cruising Instructor training, offshore race training and STCW top-up package for the "Master of yachts 200.

What qualities or experience do you need to do this demanding course? You need to have done enough sailing (say a week) to feel you are likely to enjoy it. You need to be able to get on with people generally. You need to be reasonably fit. Above all you need to be ready for some hard work and commitment.

Why choose Elite Sailing?

Several sailing schools offer apparently similar packages. If you are comparing these we suggest you look closely at the details and the quality of what is being offered – the experience of the instructors, the sea time and itinerary, and the size, quality and specifications of the yachts you will sail. Price is important of course. Our prices represent the true cost of high quality training and sailing. They are neither the cheapest nor the most expensive - just really good value.

Elite Sailing has considerable experience and an excellent record of success in preparing sailors for the yachtmaster examination - both through individual courses and the fast track programmes. We have continuously refined the fast track itinerary to reflect this experience. We have executed a circumnavigation of the UK and sailed extensively in NW European waters every year for the last 14 years. We know almost every harbour and anchorage from Britanny to Shetland. This experience is the foundation of our training methods. When you join our fast track group you will immediately feel a part of the Elite Sailing team. Our priority is to make your course successful and enjoyable. And afterwards? We’ll help you in your future sailing aims and ambitions – and if this means working in the industry – we’ll help there too.
