RYA Day Skipper Theory Course Options: 5 Day Intensive Course (Mon-Fri 0900-1700) 2 Weekends. One 2-day and one 3-day weekend (eg Sat & Sun then Fri, Sat, Sun. Each day 0900 - 1700) 7 Evenings and one weekend. Usually 1830 to 2130 on the same day of each week then 0930 to 1630 each day on the final weekend. Previous knowledge or experience: None essential but some sailing experience (eg a competent crew course) is desirable. This classroom course teaches you basic seamanship, chartwork, navigation in tidal waters, pilotage, weather, 'rules of the road' and how to take care of a yacht and crew. You must know this material before tackling any practical skippering courses. You will join a small group of other students with similar interests and share the enjoyment of learning new skills. Our RYA qualified and experienced instructors can lead you through the subjects with patience and humour. The lessons are interactive so you will have time to complete exercises yourself in class and take part in discussions. There is some homework set after each session and we go over any difficulties at the beginning of the following session. On successful completion of the test at the end of the course you will be awarded the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased course certificate. All course materials, training charts and books are included in the price (either free or on loan for the course, and navigational instruments are available on loan (intensive courses) or to buy for £25 (evening courses) Achievement: You will acquire the theoretical knowledge you need for safe navigation of a yacht in tidal waters.
