This cruise is a feast of history, wildlife, scenic beauty, and cultural diversity. Follow the ancient trade route from Chatham on the historic River Medway down the Thames estuary and along the gentle Suffolk coast. Enjoy a rest in the rural tranquillity of Southwold. Experience an express run north, sailing through the North Sea oilfields at night and along the beautiful Yorkshire coast north of Flamborough Head until the lively historic town of Whitby appears between the cliffs. North of Whitby we pass the great rivers Tees and Tyne and speed along the glorious coastline of Northumberland with its unspoilt beaches, historic castles and secluded anchorages. There will be time to visit the Farne Islands, scene of Grace Darling’s heroism and one of the finest bird sanctuaries in Britain. It will be nesting season and we should see breathtaking numbers of Puffins, Cormorants, Guillemots, Razorbills, Eider Ducks and many more. Seals inhabit the outer rocks. Just to the north lies Holy Island – Lindisfarne – one of the cradles of Christianity in Britain – where we can anchor to visit the ancient abbey and castle. Sailing into Scottish waters our next stop is the delightful little fishing harbour of Eyemouth. Then its north again across the Firth of Forth and past the Isle of May (more birds and seals) to the Fife and Grampian coasts. Experience the hospitality of this lesser-known part of Scotland; visit small working harbours; see the Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen; breathe the fresh clear air; taste the malts of Speyside and enjoy exhilarating sailing all the way to Lossiemouth.
