Course Structure
If you are a complete beginner and aiming to charter or buy a motor cruiser, you should aim initially at Day Skipper Practical standard. Your route is:

The practical courses take place aboard our training yacht at Chatham Marina. Crew/instructor ratio is 5:1 for helmsman courses and 4:1 for day skipper. The theory course is held at our classroom at the marina. Maximum class size is 9. We recommend that you also take one day courses covering VHF Radio Operation, Diesel engine maintenance, radar operation and first aid at sea – all available at the marina. Click here for details. |

International Certificate of Competence (ICC (Power)) |

If you have the Day Skipper Practical course completion certificate, you can apply to the RYA for issue of an ICC that you can use as proof of competence when cruising in other European waters. Alternatively you can ask Elite Sailing to give you a direct test of your knowledge and practical ability – either on our boat or yours. Elite Sailing is approved by the RYA as an ICC test centre. |
