Experience the thrill of speed under sail and the excitement of competition. Develop your sailing skills - at the helm, on the winches, in sail trim and good teamwork. Learn all about spinnakers. Enjoy challenging sailing, fun and laughs. A popular image of yacht racing is of exclusivity, professional sailing and a world apart from normal pleasures of cruising under sail. But at the club level its a more friendly affair with a mixture of old hands and beginners and a wide variation in boats and equipment. Because teamwork is at least as important as individual skills, beginners can get involved from the outset. We try hard, but we still make mistakes - often very amusing ones. And the skills your develop in racing can mkake your cruising sailing that much more enjoyable. Race Training Weekends These weekends are a great way to extend your sailing skills, learn how to become an effective crew member on a racing yacht, experience the excitement of yacht racing, or just enjoy a great escape from the normal toil. Cruising sailors can learn how to fly a spinnaker (without too much stress!). You don't need much sailing experience and even complete novices can get involved and enjoy the exhilaration. You can come as an individual, or make a up a party. The sessions start first thing Saturday morning at Chatham Marina. After intensive training all day we return to the marina for debrief and dinner ashore. On Sunday we measure ourselves against the competition in a real club race of about 3 hours. The yacht will be a race-prepared Jeanneau 35 or perhaps a Bavaria 46. Maximum crew are 6 for the Jeanneaus and 8 for the Bavaria. The instructor will be an experienced racing skipper with the skill, patience and humour to make the most of your weekend. You can stay aboard Friday night if you wish. Price: £220 per person. vThis includes: A berth on the yacht on Saturday night (Friday night too if you wish) Lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast on Sunday. Dinner aboard on Saturday (or ashore at individual expense if you wish) Instruction, race insurance, race fees and VAT. Wet weather gear hire is available at £10 per person.
