RYA Radar Course Options: One Day Classroom Integrated with a sailing weekend: (1800 Friday to 1500 Sunday)

Previous knowledge or experience: You should have experience as a yacht skipper, be basically competent in navigation and have workong knowledge if the International regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS, or 'Rule of the Road). This course will provide you with basic understanding of the principles of marine radar and the skill to use a simple radar set to help with collision risk assessment, collision avoidance and navigation in reduced visibility. You will learn how to make adjustments to optimise performance in different weather and sea states, how to search for vessels, buoys or hazards using different range scales, how to interpret radar returns from coastline features and navigation marks, and how to assess other vessel's speed and course relative to your own. The course may be conducted in a classroom using a simulator but more usually we run the course aboard a yacht equipped with a modern radar so you experience a real environment. Achievement: You will be competent to operate a simple marine
radar set to assist with collision assessment and avoidance and with navigation.
