Course Outline

Elite Sailing has long experience and an excellent record of success in preparing candidates for the RYA Yachtmaster examination. We understand the standards required and know how to coach to achieve them. But in the end you have to have the knowledge and skill and demonstrate that on the day. If you are unsure about your readiness for the exam, call us.

We will always give you clear, objective advice on your skills relative to the exam criteria and then work with you to achieve your objectives. For the prep courses we employ only the most experienced Yachtmaster Instructors working under the guidance of a Yachtmaster Examiner.

A preparation course is intended to identify and address any weaknesses and polish skills and performance to achieve a high probability of success at the exam. Candidates must arrive on the course already equipped with the basic knowledge and skill and in reasonably current practice. There is no time to teach professional knowledge or skills from the beginning.

Yachtmaster (Sail) – 5 Days Prep and up to 2 days Exam
Yachtmaster (Power) – 4 Days Prep and up to 2 days Exam

Minimum Experience requirements

YM Offshore: 2500 miles, 50 days at sea, 5 as skipper and 5 qualifying passages over 60 miles including 2 as skipper and 2 overnight.
YM (Coastal): 800 miles, 30 days at sea, 2 days as skipper.

Prices and latest dates for 2022 are:

Yachtmaster Prep and Exam (Sail): £848 (7 days). 13 – 19 June, 8 – 14 August, 15 – 21 October

Yachtmaster Prep and Exam (Power): £1375 (5/6 days). Contact the office for dates.

Prices do not include the RYA Yachtmaster exam fees which are currently (2022):
