Too busy to attend a classroom course or just prefer the flexibility of studying at your own pace at home? Looking for an online RYA Day Skipper Theory or Yachtmaster Theory course that you can complete in the comfort of your own home - either independently or enhanced with on-line video tutorials or even full online video classes with teaching and tutorial sessions. You can study RYA Day Skipper Theory or Yachtmaster Theory at home using Elite Sailing's own animated and narrated presentations together with authentic RYA materials and exercises.

For each level we offer a very cost effective and fully sufficient 'standard' course option which includes instructor support by email and phone, a 'premium' option that includes a series of video tutorials (Q&A sessions) that provide interactive contact with your instructor and other students and the ultimate option of a Hybrid course based on Standard Distance Learning plus full online video teaching and tutorial sessions.

These are serious courses that require at least 60 hours of study and practice to complete. But they are modular so that you can do the work in bite-size pieces. Passing the exam is a significant achievement and you'll be that much more effective as a practical skipper.

Elite Sailing online courses are a product of over 20 years of experience in delivering RYA training – practical and shore-based.

The programmes and study materials have been examined and approved by the RYA. They have already proved to be highly popular, enjoyable and successful with many people in the UK and abroad completing their studies and passing the examinations. Prices for our RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Distance Learning courses are extremely competitive because they are our own product with no middle-man to pay. And as our past students testify, there is no sacrifice in quality or effectiveness.

Home study doesn’t suit everyone so we also offer ‘hybrid’ courses based on the same high quality distance learning plus either evening classroom sessions or on-line video classes that give you that valuable direct contact with your instructor and fellow students.

We offer complete flexibility allowing you to upgrade from a standard option to a premium or hybrid option – or even a full classroom courses – at any stage just by paying the difference. .

Elite Sailing offers online RYA Skipper and Yachtmaster theory courses

RYA Day Skipper Theory – Standard Course: Price £225

Includes: All RYA Materials, Elite Sailing Presentations on USB or download, Instructor Support by email and phone, course certificate and UK postage. We will quote for postage outside UK.
The course is modular with overall study time about 60 hours. Prior boating experience is useful but not essential.

RYA Day Skipper Theory – Hybrid Course: (+ 9 on-line Video Classes): Price £350

Includes: Standard Course plus 9 X 90 minute on-line video teaching and tutorial sessions. There are 3 sessions per week (see below) for an overall duration of 3 weeks plus time to revise and complete the exam.

RYA Yachtmaster Theory – Standard Course: Price £275

Includes: All RYA Materials, Elite Sailing Presentations on USB or download, RYA Book of Navigation (worth £18), Instructor Support by email and phone, course certificate and UK postage. We will quote for postage outside UK. The course is modular with overall study time about 70 hours assuming a starting knowledge around day skipper level. Day Skipper modules are included for revision.

RYA Yachtmaster Theory – Hybrid Course (+ 10 on-line Video Classes): Price £370

Includes: Standard Course plus 10 X 90 minute on-line video teaching and tutorial sessions. There are 2 sessions per week (see below) for an overall duration of 5 weeks plus time to revise and complete the exams.

Extras?

The only essential extra is a set of navigation instruments – a Portland Plotter and dividers. You can add these to your order – price £30.

All students can request one to one online video tutorials with an instructor. This is private tuition with all the usual visual aids and a whiteboard you can both write and draw on – just like a private classroom). Price £45 per hour. You don’t even have to have enrolled on a course.

How do I enroll on one of these online courses?

You choose your Course and Option (ie standard or hybrid), decide if you want us to supply the plotter and dividers, and then send us an email.

We will enroll you and send you a link to internet pages where you can complete the booking and pay on line or by card details over the phone. As soon as you have paid we send you the complete study pack by Royal Mail Tracked service. Delivery is usually next working day for orders received before 1100.

You study the material – most of it using the Elite Presentations running on your PC or Mac – and work through the RYA exercises. Exercise answers are provided so you can check your work immediately. The presentations are supplied on a USB memory stick and run in your web browser. An internet connection isn’t required. If you have booked a hybrid course with online video, we will email the Zoom invitation and link. You simply click on this link to join a session. It will work on any device with a screen and camera.

Which sailing course option should I choose?

Standard Distance Learning options are very effective for people who are happy to study independently and instructor support is available via email.

The best all-round options are the Hybrid courses with on-line video classes using Zoom. These classes include teaching sessions to deal with topics best delivered by an instructor and tutorials with question and answer and discussion sessions. You will get to know the instructor and meet other students. This makes the courses come alive so they are more enjoyable and you are more likely to stay on schedule.
